East Sussex Place Names by An Old-Fashioned Man
File contributed for use by Pauline Mowbray & Miles Costello
This e-mail came through on the Sussex mailing list this morning I thought
it might be interesting for everyone as not everyone is on that list.

The discussion seems to have moved on to place names and so I thought that
some listers may be interested in a few extracts from a tiny booklet called
East Sussex Place Names by An Old-Fashioned Man published in 1920. The
editor lists the Sussex pronunciation of many East Sussex town and village
names and I have selected a few which may be of interest, the Sussex or
local pronunciation is given last.

Bodiam - Bodjum.
Burwash - Burrish.
Chalvington - Charnton.

Regards, Miles Costello (Petworth).
